The contest is open to all 3rd / 4th Section, Youth and Ungraded bands and the format is an entertainment programme lasting not more than 20 minutes which must include a hymn and a march. There is no requirement for a stand up soloist but there is a trophy to be won for the best one.   Prize money will be £250 for Ist, £150 for 2nd and £75 for 3rd place. Trophies will be awarded for 1st,2nd and 3rd places, best march, best hymn, best soloist and most entertaining band plus £75 and trophy for the best 4th section/youth band/ unregistered band not in the first three places.

 

Contest entry will be limited to twelve bands and will be pre-drawn to allow bands to plan their day. Contest will commence at 11 a.m. and bands will play in a  marquee with open sides situated in a natural amphitheatre .  Adjudication will be open.

KIVETON COMMUNITY WOODLAND BRASS FESTIVAL 2010.

The second Kiveton Community Woodland Brass Festival took place on Sunday, 18th July.

Organised by the Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association in partnership with Forestry Commission, England the event took place on the site of the old Kiveton Park Colliery, South Yorkshire.  The site has been reclaimed by the Forestry Commission and includes a natural amphitheatre where the bands performed their 20 minute entertainment programme.

 

Open to 3rd/4th Section and unregistered bands the event attracted ten bands, six of which had colliery connections.  

Music Adjudicator was Mr. Stan Lippeatt.

Entertainment Judges: Councillor Peter Blanksby and Mrs Steph Hryschko.

Mr Dougie MacTaggart, Sherwood District Forestry Ranger, expressed delight at the continued success of the contest and the support from the appreciative audience of over 1,000 and Peggy Tomlinson, President YHBBA, confirmed the Forestry Commission would be supporting the event again in Sunday, 10th July 2011.

We are running this contest in partnership with the Forestry Commission who have made a fantastic job of reclaiming this land which was once the site of Kiveton Park Colliery and they encourage community involvement on the site. 

 

We are planning to make this day as enjoyable as possible for all involved and I hope we will have the pleasure of your company at the first contest on this site.
